I’m pleased to have received the certificates from the Buxton Festival Fringe and it was a nice suprise to see Fordante were nominated for the Best Small Ensemble aswell as the Best New Music Writing. Thanks Buxton!

After last week’s two concerts at United Reform Church as part of the Buxton Festival Fringe, we’ve just heard that Fordante won the award for Best New Music at the festival. Sorry we couldn’t be at the ceremony to pick up the award.

Thanks for those who heard us up at Buxton and providing such a warm welcome, both Festival organisers and supporters. Comments such as “immensely listenable”, “great entertainment” and “superb musicianship” were very much appreciated and as great as receiving an awards is, as the composer it’s even more rewarding when you hear first hand that audience is enjoying and appreciating the new music…

Wem Town Hall Concert

We had a great time up in Wem this weekend performing at the newly renovated and very smart Wem Town Hall on the same weekend as the Sweet Pea Flower Show. As I hadn’t seen the venue before I was rather pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The acoustics were well suited to our sound so much so that the instruments didn’t require mic’ing.

The audience was very appreciative and the feedback following the concert was fantastic with several requests for us to return.

3 Fordante concerts this weekend: Buxton & Wem

Fordante have three concerts scheduled this weekend. On the Saturday 17th July we are over at Wem Town Hall, Shropshire and then on the Sunday we’re playing two concerts at the United Reform Church in Buxton, Derbyshire as part of the Buxton Fringe Festival.

I understand from friends of Fordante up in Buxton that the Buxton Advertisor Newspaper has just put out the following editorial which can be seen online at:

Buxton is well known for it’s water and Wem for it’s Sweet Pea Flower Show (which incidentally coincides with our 17th July concert) – but for this weekend let’s keep our fingers crossed for a dry spell…

MUSO Magazine – Another Great Album Review

I’ve just been notified that ‘The Arrival’ has been reviewed by the classical music publication MUSO Magazine. And a rather nice 4 star review it is too!

“Dramatic and evocative… polished…impassioned…thrilling… original and interesting music“

It’s interesting to note the repeated use of ‘dramatic’ and ‘evocative’ in the reviews this album is receiving.

Fordante Concert Season 2010 has begun

Well that’s the first concert of the season at Adforton, Shropshire, completed and it’s great to have played once again to such an appreciative audience.

Featuring a series of popular pieces from the big screen, in particular I must admit it was great fun performing music from Pirates Of The Carribean (by Klaus Badelt/Hans Zimmer), alongside music from our album ‘The Arrival’. There were a couple of other suprises musically in there too.

It was also great to welcome our youngest and newest member to the ensemble (Ruth Woolley) on Viola.

So thanks to all those who came to the Adforton concert – I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next concert at The Memorial Hall, Upton-Upon-Severn, Worcestershire, this Saturday 19th June at 7:30pm.
